'It feels so weird to practically have to tape the sheets on so that
they don't fall down at any stage,' complains Tara Fitzgerald about her
recent cover-it-all bed scene for US TV.
But don't fret - this foray into the realm of modesty doesn't look
set to last.
Her latest film, Sirens, a bare-all tale of sexual shenanigans,
is sure to have Mary Whitehouse quaking in her furry slippers all over
again. 'I find it interesting and not as voyeuristic as some of the less
overt stuff you might see,' says Fitzgerald in defence of the film, which
also features the ubiquitous Hugh Grant and Sky Magazine's cover
star Elle MacPherson.
Fitzgerald spent seven years as a 'professional waitress' before being
spotted at drama school and offered the role of Nancy in the shock movie
hit Hear My Song. Risque roles in steamy TV dramas like The Camomile
Lawn soon followed, as did a starring slot opposite acting legend Peter
O'Toole in Our Song, her only stage play to date. Another film shoot
and a recent change of address behind her (she has just moved into a new
house with her actor-boyfriend Dorian Healy), Fitzgerald is now taking
a well earned break:
'I have a sense of going somewhere, but I don't have to know what it
is I'm going towards,' she says philosophically. 'I know that sounds flaky,
but it's not. It's just the way I am. I like being surprised.'
